Public Comment <br /> Olivia Angus, medical device engineer and clean water activist, encouraged the City to pass an <br /> ordinance to help curb the use of single use plastics. She asks the City to extend the State's <br /> Straws upon request law to include all service providers including fast food, coffee shops, bars, <br /> and other food establishment. She noted that current law only applies to sit-down restaurants. In <br /> addition, she would like the law to include stir sticks, sleeves, utensils and other disposable food <br /> ware items. In December 2018, she screened the film Straws for the students at the Walnut Creek <br /> Elementary School and invited Last Plastic Straw founder Jackie Nunez to speak to the students. <br /> Ms. Angus noted that although Pleasanton is inland, she still sees plastics in the creek which <br /> drain into the ocean. <br /> Mayor Thorne stated that City Council did agree to make this issue a priority over the next two <br /> years.
