COMMISSION REPORTS
7. Committee Meetings
a. Public Art Selection Sub-Committee — no report.
b. Special Event Sub-Committee — no report.
COMMISSION COMMENTS
Chairperson Pellegrino questioned what steps the Commission should be taking in reference
to the comments made by Lawrence Kohl earlier in the meeting. Ms. Whitney advised that
staff provide information for the Commission in their March report and the Commission would
have an opportunity to discuss the grant application from the Pacific Chamber Orchestra when
reviewing all the grant applications. Waiting until the April meeting to review the item would
require creating a sub-committee with the Youth Commission to work on proposed changes.
Commissioner Jellison confirmed that what Mr. Kohl had stated was that the Orchestra had not
met all of the guidelines but were still allowed to submit an application. Chairperson Pellegrino
thought the confusion was that Commissioners were not allowed to review the application if an
organization had not met all requirements. Commissioner Jellison agreed that Commissioners
need to be provided affirmation that they can still consider funding Pacific Chamber Orchestra.
Ms. Whitney indicated she needed to fully understand the grant process and obtain clarification
on the process so she can advise Commissioners.
Commissioner Casey noted that this is an agency that has been in good-standing and he
would like to understand from staff what options are available for the Commission to help guide
them through their decision-making on this application.
STAFF COMMENTS
8. Civic Arts Project Status Report
Commissioner Nene questioned the location of the Eventide art piece. Ms. Whitney noted that
staff has been requested to look at other locations for this piece. She also advised that staff
will be bringing back Project Paintbox projects and the Oak Woodland project will be going to
City Council for their review at their February 5, 2019 meeting.
9. Upcoming Meeting Topic Matrix
Ms. Whitney reviewed the Upcoming Meeting Topic Matrix with Commissioners.
Commissioner Casey asked that when available, approved City Council Priorities be included
in the calendar.
ADJOURNMENT
Civic Arts Commission Minutes
February 4, 2019
Page 7
