THE CITY OF 7
WM1 "' ' " CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
pLEASANTON.
March 5, 2019
Police
TITLE: APPROVE SPECIAL EVENT STREET CLOSURES FOR CALENDAR
YEAR 2019
SUMMARY
The Pleasanton Municipal Code requires City Council approval of parades and special
events which necessitate the temporary closure of City streets and temporary parking
restrictions.
RECOMMENDATION
Approve the street closures for the 2019 Special Events as detailed in Attachment 1.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
This information is being provided to give the City Council and the citizens of
Pleasanton an estimate of personnel costs connected to street closures in 2019.
It is estimated the Police Department will expend approximately 2,033 hours on street
closures relating to twenty-nine special events this year. The Streets Department
estimates approximately 400 hours to prepare for, set up, and after the event, collect
barriers, cones and barricades for the special events in this staff report.
After calculating the Police personnel costs, at an overtime rate, and the Streets
Department personnel costs at regular rate, associated with 2019 special events, the
cost of street closures associated with the events report are approximately $207,313.07
($181,703.07 Police Department; $25,610.00 Streets Department). Those costs are
included in the City's general fund budget. The city does not recover all of these costs
from event organizers.
