eight (8) hours on the first pay day in March, June, September and December of <br /> each year. <br /> 6.6 Sick Leave <br /> A. Sick Leave Accrual <br /> 1 . Management and confidential employees shall earn sick leave at the rate of eight <br /> hours for each month of service to a maximum accumulation of 1,440 hours of sick <br /> leave. Hours accumulated in excess of 1 ,440 are applied toward additional years <br /> of service under the current CaIPERS "Credit for Unused Sick Leave", Government <br /> Code, Section 20965. Hours accumulated in excess of 1,440 will not be credited <br /> as paid time off until such time as the accumulated sick leave balance falls under <br /> the 1 ,440 hour threshold. <br /> See Appendix D for policies applicable to Fire personnel. <br /> 2. An employee on leave of absence with pay in lieu of temporary disability payments <br /> pursuant to Section 4850 of the Labor Code shall accumulate sick leave during <br /> said leave of absence, in accordance with the provisions of that section. <br /> B. Sick Leave Usage <br /> 1. Management and confidential employees shall be eligible for sick leave with pay. <br /> Sick leave shall not be considered a right, which an employee may use at their <br /> discretion, but shall be allowed only as follows: <br /> a. In cases of necessity and actual sickness or disability; <br /> b. For medical and dental appointments, at the discretion of the employee's <br /> supervisor; <br /> c. For a maximum of 80 hours of sick leave per calendar year in which a <br /> member of the employee's immediate family meets the criteria in section <br /> B.1 .a or B.1 .b. Immediate family shall consist of the spouse, domestic <br /> partner, children, children of a domestic partner, parents, or other <br /> individuals whose relationship to the employee is that of a dependent or <br /> near dependent.
