Section 11. Fire Prevention Certificate Pay <br /> Fire prevention personnel hired after July 1, 2012 shall receive an additional four percent (4%) of base <br /> salary for obtaining the California Fire Service Training and Education System Fire Prevention Officer <br /> (Level 1) certificate. <br /> Section 12. Paramedic Program and Compensation <br /> 12.1 Program Description <br /> The Department intends to maintain advanced life support ("ALS") capability through the assignment of <br /> one(1)designated Firefighter/Paramedic on each Engine Company and each Truck Company. Employees <br /> hired as Firefighter/Paramedics must maintain their paramedic licenses and participate in the paramedic <br /> program as a condition of employment,unless allowed to withdraw from the program in accordance with <br /> Section 12.3 below. <br /> 12.2 Paramedic Staffing <br /> Minimum paramedic staffing shall consist of one assigned Firefighter/Paramedic per Company. <br /> 12.3 Withdrawal Process <br /> Firefighter/Paramedics are expected to maintain their paramedic licenses and participate in the paramedic <br /> program unless the Fire Chief approves their withdrawal from the paramedic program in accordance with <br /> the following procedure: <br /> A. Paramedics must serve a minimum of five (5) years in the paramedic program absent <br /> extraordinary circumstances. Paramedics who seek to withdraw from the paramedic program <br /> after five (5) years of paramedic service in the program shall advise the Fire Chief of their <br /> desire to do so six(6)months in advance. <br /> B. The Department shall maintain a sufficient number of paramedics to satisfy the minimum <br /> paramedic staffing requirement and to meet operational needs. A verified ability to staff the <br /> minimum need must exist before any employee is allowed to leave the paramedic program. <br /> C. In the event that there are multiple requests for withdrawal from the paramedic program, <br /> priority shall be based on Department seniority regardless of rank. <br /> D. Paramedics wishing to leave the program must either maintain their paramedic license or <br /> obtain an Alameda County EMT certification prior to withdrawal and maintain this <br /> certification as a condition of employment. <br /> E. Paramedics who promote to a higher rank may maintain their paramedic licenses. The <br /> Department agrees to cover the costs of licensing and continuing education as outlined in <br /> Section 12.4 of this MOU. <br /> 14 <br />
