PROPOSED SALARY STRUCTURE (effective January 1, 2019)
Classification Title Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 Step 4 Step 5
Apprentice/Intern $ 12.24 $ 12.85 $ 13.49 $ 14.17
Preschool Aide $ 12.47 $ 13.10 $ 13.75 $ 14.44
Furthermore, the City has five classifications that, in lieu of a five-step salary range, use
an hourly rate range to determine pay of temporary employees. The five classifications
are Police Recruit, Program Assistant, Program Specialist, Clerical Assistant and Senior
Clerical Assistant. The recent minimum wage increase will require an adjustment to the
hourly range of the Program Assistant and Clerical Assistant classifications.
Specifically, instead of a minimum of $11.00 an hour, the proposed hourly range will
originate at $12.00 an hour. Below, in relevant part, are the current and proposed
hourly ranges for the Program Assistant and Clerical Assistant classifications:
CURRENT HOURLY RANGE
Program Assistant $11.00 — $40.00
Clerical Assistant $11.00 — $20.00
PROPOSED HOURLY RANGE
Program Assistant $12.00 — $40.00
Clerical Assistant $12.00 — $20.00
CONCLUSION
This report reviews the recommended changes to the classifications and compensation
structure for the City's temporary, part-time/seasonal employees. As the City Council
sets the compensation for this group of employees, staff seeks the City Council
approval of these adjustments.
Submitted by: Fiscal Review: Approve by:
/ Ira 1 /"./k
Debra Gill Tina Olson Nelson Fialho
Director of Human Resources Director of Finance City Manager
and Labor Relations
Attachments:
1.
