THE CITY OF 6
"` CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
pLEASANTONJ
January 15, 2019
Human Resources
TITLE: ADOPT A RESOLUTION TO AMEND THE TEMPORARY, PART-
TIME/SEASONAL CLASSIFICATION SALARY STRUCTURE
SUMMARY
Compensation for temporary employees is established by the City Council and reflected
on the City's publicly posted Temporary, Part-time/Seasonal Classification Salary
Structure. Periodically, the salaries are studied to determine whether they are
appropriate to attract and retain qualified employees to support the programs and
services provided by the City. A recent compensation study concluded that several
temporary classifications are currently below market as compared to nearby
jurisdictions. In addition, on January 1, 2019 the California minimum wage increased
from $11.00 per hour to $12.00 per hour requiring adjustments to the salary schedule in
order to meet this mandate. Generally, these employees do not work the number of
hours required to receive benefits.
RECOMMENDATION
Adopt a resolution approving changes to the attached Temporary, Part-time/Seasonal
Classification Salary Structure.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
The financial impact as a result of the implementation of this recommendation is an
estimated $71,091 per year. Of this total, $18,275 is due to mandated minimum wage
increases. The remaining $52,816 is based upon a comprehensive study of salaries in
our region.
For the remainder of the 2018/19 fiscal year (January 2019—June 2019), the expected
impact will be $35,545, and will be incorporated in the midyear updates to the City's
budget.
