THE CITY OF
1 11
"' " :41:3 "' CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
pLEASANTON.
October 2, 2018
City Manager
TITLE: REVIEW AND DISCUSSION ON CONCEPTUAL PLANS FOR LIONS
WAYSIDE AND DELUCCHI PARKS
SUMMARY
On September 16, 2014, City Council approved the Lions Wayside and Delucchi Parks
Master Plan (Master Plan), which envisions unifying and reprogramming the two parks
at First and Neal Streets to improve usability, safety and aesthetics. One key
component of the original Master Plan is the proposed undergrounding of the drainage
swale in Lions Wayside Park to unite the east and west sides of the park. This proposed
design was not supported by local permitting authorities due to the potential
environmental impacts and loss of riparian habitat, forcing staff to reconsider the original
design to Lions Wayside Park. Working with the landscape architect that developed the
current designs, staff is presenting four potential design alternatives that attempt to
meet the goals of the Master Plan while including design accommodations to meet the
requirements of local permitting agencies.
RECOMMENDATION
Receive the update on the current status of Lions Wayside and Delucchi Parks, provide
feedback on the proposed design alternatives presented in this report, and provide staff
with the necessary direction to continue design work with the Parks and Recreation
Commission to produce a final design that meets intended goals as defined in the
Master Plan.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
Further study, engineering and design work will be necessary to produce a final
alternative design; a specific amount will be determined after the City Council's direction
to staff.
