Recommendation to Allocate Community Grant Funds in the Civic Arts Category <br /> for Fiscal Year 2018/2019 <br /> Ms. Grose and Mr. Patrick reviewed with Commissioners information about the Community <br /> Grant Funds advising that a total of eleven (11) applications had been received for funding <br /> under the Community Grants Program in the Civic Arts category. <br /> Chairperson Jellison opened the meeting for agency presentations at 7:10 p.m. <br /> Lawrence Kohl, Pacific Chamber Orchestra — provided information about the assembly <br /> concerts they have done at two schools each year and have now received grants for <br /> assemblies at Hayward and Livermore schools and would like to be able to do assemblies at <br /> more Pleasanton schools. Mr. Kohl provided information about clinics they have done and <br /> thanked the City of Pleasanton for supporting their projects. <br /> Jim DeMerman, Museum on Main Executive Director—thanked for Commission for their past <br /> support of Museum programs that has allowed for them to grow. He noted in the Master Plan <br /> the need for diversified programs and have been able to make some changes and are going to <br /> do "An Afternoon & Evening With..." series for which 4,700 tickets will be made available. <br /> Funds requested will be used to pay for performers, some who will come from other countries. <br /> Jim Schmidt / Revital Shmerling, Livermore Valley Opera — provided details about their <br /> Outreach Program and Interactive Opera Program provided to school students. They hope by <br /> the end of the school year to have visited over 10,000 students in the program. After <br /> performances allow time for students to discuss and ask questions of the artists, making sure <br /> students continue to receive a beneficial experience. Discussed the importance of <br /> outreaching. <br /> Les Duman, Pleasanton Community Concert Band — Mr. Duman discussed the importance of <br /> making the band program as diverse and broad as possible. He noted that many in the <br /> community think that the Community Concert Band is a civic organization and commented on <br /> Civic Arts Commission Minutes <br /> March 5, 2018 <br /> Page 1 <br />
