Operating Revenue:
• Conventional Bart - $20.1 million in 2040
• DMU — $12.1 million in 2040
• EMU - $12.1 million in 2040
• Express Bus/BRT - $ 5.9 million in 2040
• Enhanced Bus - $ 0.7 million in 2040
Vehicle Miles Traveled, Air quality Impacts, and Energy Consumption
Vehicle Miles Traveled (VMT)
• Conventional BART — reduction of 244,000 VMT
• DMU — reduction of 140,600 VMT
• EMU — reduction of 140,600 VMT
• Express Bus - reduction of 92,600 VMT
• Enhanced Bus - reduction of 6,500 VMT
Air Quality Impacts as expressed in Green House Gas (GHG)
• Conventional BART — reduce GHG emissions by 11,200 metric tons/year
• DMU — reduce GHG emissions by 6,000 metric tons/year
• EMU — reduce GHG emissions by 3,500 metric tons/year
• Express Bus - reduce GHG emissions by 3,700 metric tons/year
• Enhanced Bus - increase GHG emissions by 600 metric tons/year
Enhanced bus increases green house gas because they have a very small increase in Bart
riders and it doesn't offset the energy needed to power bus.
Energy consumption expressed as Million British Thermal Units (MMBTU)
• Conventional BART — reduction of 130,800 MMBTU per year
• DMU — reduction of 35,000 MMBTU per year
• EMU — reduction of 66,500 MMBTU per year
• Express Bus - reduction of 56,800 MMBTU per year
• Enhanced Bus - increase of 8,200 MMBTU per year
The Conventional BART project and project alternatives increase BART ridership, however, it
is apparent that rail alternatives provide the highest increase in ridership. VMT, GHG, and
MMBTU data presented reflects estimated reductions in 2040 as it reflects the greatest project
benefits with BART to Livermore having full operations.
