BACKGROUND
The City of Pleasanton's Utilities Division operates three (3) groundwater wells, 13
potable water booster stations, 11 sewer lift stations and four (4) storm water lift stations.
All of which can be operating on a 24 hour per day, seven days per week and 365 days
per year basis if needed. In the past, we have faced situations where PG&E supplied
power has not been available, which has required temporary power by a generator. While
we have permanent generators located at most sewer stations and some water stations,
we do not have emergency backup power at our well production sites. Flooding, heat,
accidents and normal maintenance issues have all led to some periodic interruptions of
PG&E service. The need to supply any of these vulnerable stations with portable
emergency generator power is paramount to both operate the system safely and
effectively in times of emergency.
DISCUSSION
Staff has performed extensive research into a broad cross-section of generators currently
on the market by reviewing literature, product videos and having conversations with
colleagues at other agencies. Staff ultimately narrowed the field down to three different
generators from various manufacturers, including the Multiquip 300. Based on staffs
research, the Multquip 300 is the selected piece of equipment possessing the highest
degree of operational flexibility found on the market today, and it is equipped, sized and
powered most suitably for the maintenance spectrum found in the City as well as the
known regulatory compliance requirements.
The Multiquip 300 is manufactured by Multiquip Corporation in Carson California, who is
listed as an approved vendor by the National Joint Powers Alliance. Completing the
purchase through a Cooperative Purchase Agreement in conjunction with the National
Joint Powers Alliance meets the City's competitive bidding requirement.
The purchase of the Multiquip 300 kVA Portable Generator will significantly increase the
ability of our Operations staff to keep our residents of Pleasanton with potable water as
well as ensuring no interruptions in our sewer collections ability while meeting regulatory
compliance.
Submitted by: Fiscal Review: Approved by:
.
/1171^,k- AjL7
Kathleen Yurchak Tina Olson Nelson Fialho
Director of Operations Director of Finance City Manager
and Water Utilities
Attachments:
1.
