BACKGROUND
In July 2007, the City of Pleasanton and the Amador-Livermore Valley Historical Society
(ALVHS) entered into their first service Agreement for enhanced and expanded
interpretive programming for the Alviso Adobe Community Park as well as
administrative and programming costs associated with operations of the Museum on
Main. Since the Alviso Adobe opened in October 2008, the educational programs have
flourished, the docent program has been established, and a collections management
program was initiated. In 2017, the original agreement was separated into two (2)
agreements, one for the reimbursable expenses for services at the Alviso Adobe
Community Park and one for the administrative and programming costs associated with
operations of the Museum on Main.
The City has leased the property at 603 Main Street to the Amador-Livermore Historical
Society for use as the Museum on Main since 2006. The first lease agreement was for a
five year term and was extended for another five year term in June of 2011. Since
January 3, 2016, the lease has continued as a month-to-month lease per the terms of
the lease agreement.
DISCUSSION
The proposed service Agreement commences on February 21, 2018, and expires
December 31, 2022. Compensation for the services rendered are as follows:
February 28, 2018-$54,900; January 5, 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022 - $109,800 each
year.
The Agreement replaces any previous grants or agreements between the City and
ALVHS, and represents the total compensation for services provided by ALVHS related
to the Museum on Main as outlined in Exhibit A.
Exhibit A denotes the programming and services the Museum on Main provides to
preserve and commemorate the history of Pleasanton and the Livermore Valley.
Specifically, dollars will be used to underwrite staff salaries, day to day operation
expenses, public programs and supplies. The Museum on Main will continue to offer
programs, such as its Lecture Series at the Firehouse Arts Center and downtown
walking tours.
City staff and ALVHS have agreed to meet every year to discuss this contract and the
services provided. This collaborative relationship has strengthened over the years and
the ALVHS Board of Directors is supportive of the proposed Agreement.
The proposed lease extension is for five years and continues the same terms and
conditions as the previous lease.
