Ken McNeill, President of the Pleasanton Police Officers' Association, thanked staff for their work <br />on the agreement and noted the process has been arduous and frustrating. Regardless, the result <br />has been a fair, reasonable, and well-received tentative agreement which was supported by an <br />overwhelming majority of Police Officers. He thanked members of the negotiations team for their <br />hard work and dedication to the process and Council for its support. <br />Mayor Thorne closed public comments. <br />Councilmember Pentin commended staff and the Association working together in supporting the <br />City's Public Safety Officers. <br />Councilmember Brown thanked Mr. McNeill and Police Officers and agreed the process was <br />difficult and long, but commented positively on the results. She spoke in support of the Citizen <br />Police program and thanked the Officers in Blue. <br />Councilmember Olson stated one of the reasons Pleasanton is a great town is the quality of its <br />Police Department. He thanked the officers and urged them to keep up the good work. <br />Mayor Thorne commented on the good ratings the City's Public Safety received in the community <br />survey and thanked the Pleasanton Police Department or their good work. <br />MATTERS INITIATED BY COUNCIL <br />Councilmember Brown asked when Council will review the parklets matter. City Manager Fialho <br />reported they were installed this summer and staff will present a report towards the end of the year. <br />Mayor Thorne reported the Governor recently signed a packet of housing bills and asked staff to report <br />back in terms of the impacts the bills will have on the City. City Manager Fialho said the Planning <br />Department has been working on a white paper explaining the impacts. He addressed approval of the <br />City's Housing Element and reported the City is good through the next review cycle. <br />Mayor Thorne expressed specific concern regarding SB 35. City Manager Fialho stated the City is not <br />required to rezone land to meet the new law, but is required to implement its certified Housing Element. <br />Councilmember Brown reported attending a Wheels Bus Board meeting and noted some surrounding <br />cities are doing a response to the draft EIR relative to the BART -to -Livermore and asked whether that <br />matter will be considered by Council. City Manager Fialho reported the comment period ends on <br />October 16 and staff is drafting a letter explaining the City's position and noted the City's policy position <br />has not changed and is consistent with Council's work plan. He added staff will circulate the draft letter <br />to Council. <br />Mayor Thorne indicated the bill giving the City of Pleasanton the authority to locally run that project has <br />been signed by the Governor. <br />COUNCIL REPORTS - None <br />ADJOURNMENT <br />There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:49 p.m. The Council extended a <br />tribute to our nation's men and women serving in the military.
