including services were well-liked, same day service is important, consistency of drivers, and
there is a need for better outreach information.
Stakeholder engagement was discussed including meetings with the Stakeholder Advisory
Committee meeting, Wheels Accessible Advisory Committee, and the Pleasanton Paratransit
Task Force. A few key issues discussed were complexity of traveling longer distances and the
lack of accessible taxis for wheelchair users. Pleasanton Paratransit were noted for their excellent
service and staff, but the service is not ADA compliant. Improved data collection and data
management for reporting ADA and non-ADA rider data separately will help drive
recommendations for the future. Pleasanton Paratransit costs are high and they have declining
ridership. Ridership is increasing on Wheels due to Pleasanton denials and availability of drivers.
Next steps include finalizing the service assessment and conducting focus groups to discuss
alternatives, draft alternatives and various evaluation approaches will be developed, community
workshops will be conducted, and all developed recommendations will be brought back in January
for the City Council's review. The final study is scheduled to be completed in February.
Councilmember Narum requested the recommendations include ways to get the costs down.
Councilmember Brown requested options for shifting over portions of Pleasanton Paratransit and
review processes to ensure that drivers are qualified. Mr. Weiner also stated that there is a group
within their firm which is tracking autonomous vehicles for service delivery and he would draw on
their expertise as to potential future solutions applicable to Pleasanton.
MATTERS INITIATED BY COUNCIL- None
COUNCIL REPORTS
Mayor Thorne reported that he and Councilmember Pentin attended the recent League of California
Cities conference and participated in a protest on the Capitol steps encouraging the Governor not to
sign SB 649, which would allow wireless companies to place large machinery in residential
neighborhoods.
