Public Comment
Sachin Bhayati expressed concerns with the Owens Drive widening, and mentioned potential
problems including the volume of people walking across the trail, the blockage of emergency
vehicles and the traffic safety impacts. He noted a distinct trend in more cars and traffic in North
Pleasanton.
Sharon Piekarski thanked members of the City Council who had the foresight to require retail
establishments near Owens Drive, which will only help to keep residents off the streets and out of
their cars. She was not clear on why the narrowing of Owens was required. She did observe the
traffic herself between 5:15 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. and was surprised how smoothly traffic flowed.
There was some stoppage for pedestrians at Iron Horse Trail. Widening of the lanes would be
expensive. Sales tax is down in the City and the City also must support the pension obligations. It
would be irresponsible for the City Council to approve widening Owens Drive to fix a problem that
does not currently exist.
City Council Minutes Page 3 of 7 September 5,2017
