The Civic Economics
analysis of the Costco subsidies clearly shows that this proposal is problematic and the city's analysis too
optimistic. The return on investment, the ability to pay back the loan, the impacts to existing Pleasanton
businesses, and the questionable diversion of TIF funds all deserve further consideration. One of you will
surely say that the public voted for Costco so let's move forward. But no one voted for this.
I urge you to put this project on hold to get a more realistic understanding of the project finances and the
benefits to Pleasanton, if any. Ignoring this information and approving this now would be a failure in your
responsibilities to the public and nothing but Corporate Welfare to a $120 billion-dollar company.
This is what I was going to say to you tonight. But then I remembered I would be wasting my time and my
breath, and your certain disdain for my opinion would be offensive. Costco has at least three slam-dunk votes
1
