THE CITY OF LEL 1 6 °°' "'°' CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT LEASANTON© September 5, 2017 Community Development Traffic Engineering Division TITLE: APPROVE THE JUNIPERO STREET/INDEPENDENCE DRIVE TRAFFIC CALMING PLAN SUMMARY City staff has been working with the residents of the Junipero Street/Independence Drive neighborhood to develop solutions to address their traffic concerns. The City and the residents have developed a comprehensive plan that includes the following traffic calming elements: installation of four speed lumps, crosswalks, crosswalk signs and a radar speed sign. The residents have collected the required signatures to show that a strong majority (67%) of the residents support the plan. RECOMMENDATION Approve the Junipero Street/Independence Drive Traffic Calming Plan. FINANCIAL STATEMENT The estimated cost to construct the Junipero Street/Independence Drive Traffic Calming Plan is $25,000. Funds are available in the Junipero and Independence Traffic Calming Devices Capital Improvement Program project (CIP No. 17557). The physical devices that will be installed on Junipero Street/Independence Drive will require minimal maintenance, and the maintenance cost will be paid through the Street Division's Road Maintenance Program and the City's Traffic Signal Maintenance Program. The speed lumps will require advanced warning signs and pavement markings. The radar speed signs will require routine maintenance which is covered in the Traffic Signal Maintenance Contract. The proposed crosswalks will require the installation of warning signs and pavement markings. The proposed striping and pavement legends will need to be refreshed as needed to ensure visibility.
