BACKGROUND
Pleasanton Police has employed the use of in-vehicle MDC's for over 20 years. The
current inventory of ruggedized MDC's were installed and have been in use since 2011.
An upgrade of the technology is necessary to bring the hardware equipment up to
specifications that are required to operate a soon to be implemented upgrade of the public
safety software system(s). Additionally, the new MDC's will be equipped with wireless
data modems that will facilitate the increased bandwidth that is now available for remote
and mobile connectivity, for data communications to the PD systems. This increased
bandwidth will now allow officers in the field access to additional resources that have not
been available due to bandwidth constraints, such as video. Further, although the
previous equipment deployed has been very reliable and problem free; the hardware and
operating system drivers have gone `end-of-life', and are no longer supported. Officer
safety will also be improved, as in-vehicle mounting apparatus has been reduced in size
and improved. This will allow for more room in the cab of the vehicles, with the MDC's
being mounted further away from the driver.
DISCUSSION
Information Technology posted a RFP on the City web site on May 12, 2017, along with
informing interested parties of its posting. IT allowed for a 2 week inquiry period for
interested parties to submit questions regarding the RFP. Response to inquiries was
provided on May 26, 2017. And proposals were to be submitted by the June 1, 2017
deadline. The City Clerk office received one proposal — Pursuit North. Which was
reviewed and evaluated by Police and IT. The submitted proposal was judged
responsible, competitive, and met all criteria and requirements in the RFP.
Submitted •y: Fisca Review: Approve by:
Avtiel
Allen .m 1 •n• Tina Olson Nelson Fialho
Dir- or of I Director of Finance City Manager
Attachments:
1.
