The scope of work for the Fire Station Three replacement project is outlined within the
study performed in 2016. The design concept and the cost estimate are based upon the
study, so it is intended that the final design remain consistent with the design concept in
the study. To accommodate the required uses on this small existing site, the new building
is anticipated to be two-story for living, working and sleeping, while the apparatus bays
will be a tall single story. The two-story portion of the building will be located on the south,
or West Las Positas side, of the site. The two apparatus bays will be attached to the two-
story portion of the building and be located to the north. Ingress and egress for fire
apparatus will remain the same; pull through bays from Santa Rita Road out onto West
Las Positas. The sleeping quarters and showering facilities will be located upstairs. The
sleeping quarters will be single occupancy rooms (with three lockers to rotate shifts) and
the showering facilities will be single occupancy rooms, allowing for non-gender specific
use by fire personnel. The new station will comply with California Building Code Title 24
for energy use. It will be accessible as per the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), as
required by law. The station will have modern decontamination and gear wash-down
facilities. Fire personnel turn-out gear will be stored as appropriate in a dedicated turn-
out gear locker space of the apparatus floor. Lockable space will be provided for medical
pharmaceuticals. Living space for day use will be located downstairs in the two-story
portion of the building, with a kitchen equipped to serve the fire personnel needs. This
area will also contain office space and a dedicated space for exercise equipment.
Jeff Katz Architecture is prepared to begin this work immediately. It is anticipated that
preparation of final design plans and biddable documents will require approximately eight
months, meaning the project should be advertised for construction bid in March 2018,
with an award recommendation to City Council no later than June 2018. Construction will
start thereafter and likely require eight to ten months to complete. This is a general outline
of the schedule to provide City Council and the community an idea of when construction
is likely to occur. As the project progresses the schedule will be refined.
Submitted by: Fiscal Review: Approve by:
- 010
Stephen ' patrick Tina Olson Nelson Fialho
Director of Engineering Director of Finance City Manager
Attachments:
1.
