THE CITY OF 1 0
r _ i CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
pL'EASANTON.
June 20, 2017
Engineering
TITLE: APPROVE A PROFESSIONAL SERVICES AGREEMENT WITH JEFF KATZ
ARCHITECTURE IN THE AMOUNT OF $19,000 TO ASSESS THE CAUSE
AND EXTENT OF RAINWATER LEAKS IN THE PARAPET WALLS AT FIRE
STATION FOUR AND PREPARE BIDDABLE DOCUMENTS FOR A
PROJECT TO STOP CONTINUED LEAKING
SUMMARY
The proposed professional services agreement with Jeff Katz Architecture (JKA) is to
assess the cause and extent of rainwater leaks in the parapet walls at Fire Station Four.
The parapet walls are an architectural feature that extend the exterior walls of the building
above the flat roof. The parapet walls hide roof-top mounted equipment from view when
looking at the building from the ground perspective. There is water damage to both the
inside and outside of the building finishes. Based upon the damage, the rainwater is
compromising the building waterproofing system by entering the parapet walls above the
flat roof. JKA will determine how the water is entering the building, and prepare biddable
construction documents for the repair or replacement of the waterproofing system.
RECOMMENDATION
1. Approve the attached professional services agreement with Jeff Katz Architecture in
the amount of $19,000 to assess the cause and extent of rainwater leaks in the
parapet walls at Fire Station Four and prepare biddable bid documents for the repair.
2. Authorize the City Manager to execute the professional services agreement with JKA
in the amount of $19,000.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
There is $200,000 currently budgeted in the Capital Improvement Program (CIP) Budget
for this project: "Fire Station #4 — Repair to Upper Parapet Walls" CIP No. 11429.
