THE CITY OF 1 4
°'°'r' '' CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
pLEASANTON.
June 6, 2017
Community Development
Traffic Engineering Division
TITLE: ADOPT THE UPDATED PEDESTRIAN AND BICYCLE MASTER PLAN
SUMMARY
The City adopted the current Pedestrian and Bicycle Master Plan in January of 2010. The
Master Plan requires an update every five years to ensure the plan reflects the needs of
the community and to keep the City competitive for funding opportunities.
The most significant changes are the addition of two goals to the Plan. The first new goal
is to create a "Low Stress" bicycle and pedestrian network that may be enjoyed by all
users and abilities and the second new goal is to focus improvements on corridors.
Combined, these new goals will result in changes to both the bicycle corridor alignments
and the project types proposed. Additionally, the Master Plan includes a prioritized list of
improvements.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the City Council adopt the 2017 Pedestrian and Bicycle Master
Plan.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
There is not a financial impact as a result of this Master Plan. Adoption of the Plan allows
the City to pursue future grant funding available through various County, State and
Federal programs and retains the eligibility for local sales tax revenue and other State
funding sources.
