THE CITY OF CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT pL£ASANTOK June 6, 2017 City Manager TITLE: ADOPT A RESOLUTION APPROVING THE FIRST AMENDMENT TO MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING FOR THE OPERATIONS AND MAINTENANCE OF THE EAST COUNTY ANIMAL SHELTER AND AUTHORIZATION FOR THE CITY MANAGER TO ENTER INTO A 2-YEAR CONTRACT WITH ALAMEDA COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE FOR SHELTER OPERATIONS AT AN ESTIMATED AVERAGE ANNUAL COST OF APPROXIMATELY $227,000. SUMMARY The City of Pleasanton currently contracts with the Alameda County Sheriff's Office for the maintenance and operation of the East County Animal Shelter. The Shelter is jointly owned by the cities of Livermore, Pleasanton, Dublin and Alameda County and provides a range of animal services including boarding, licensing, medical services, adoption and euthanasia. The attached Amendment will extend the current Memorandum of Understanding with the Alameda County Sheriffs Office for two years from July 1, 2017 ending June 30, 2019. RECOMMENDATION Staff recommends the City Council adopt a resolution approving the attached First Amendment to Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Alameda County Sheriff's Office for the maintenance and operation of the East County Animal Shelter located at 4595 Gleason Avenue in the City of Dublin. Staff further recommends that the City Manager be authorized to sign, on behalf of the City of Pleasanton, the First Amendment to MOU for the term of July 1, 2017 to June 30, 2019. FINANCIAL STATEMENT This First Amendment to MOU is for a two year period from July 1, 2017 to June 30, 2019. The estimated cost to the City of Pleasanton for our portion of the operating costs of the shelter for FY 2017-18 and FY 2018-19 is $454,000. The proposed Police Department budget contains sufficient funds for the FY 2017-18 and FY 2018-19 budget years.
