Booklegger materials are those materials used by our Booklegger volunteers who visit each K-8 classroom in the Pleasanton Unified School District twice each year to share the love of reading for pleasure and highlight library resources. At this same discussion, the Library leadership team identified the need for a Library Fine & Fee Waiver Policy that allows staff to intervene when special circumstances arise or the inevitable human error occurs. The formal Library Fine & Fee Waiver Policy explicitly identifies guidelines staff are to use when a fine or fee waiver is requested. The proposed Library Fine & Fee Waiver Policy addresses these situations and once again promotes equitable access. The anticipated date to implement the new guidelines and policies is July 1, 2017. To ensure successful implementation, the library will publicize the new guidelines and fines/fees structures with brochures and updated information on the library's website and social media outlets. Staff is not recommending any changes to other library policies at this time including those relating to confidentiality of library records, registration of borrowers, and defacement of library materials. The Library Commission met on April 13, 2017 to review the new policies and fines and fee schedule and recommended that they be adopted.
