PL£ASANTON. CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
7
May 2, 2017
Engineering
TITLE: APPROVE A PROFESSIONAL SERVICES AGREEMENT WITH
ARCH -PAC, INC. TO PROVIDE ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN SERVICES
FOR THE DOLORES BENGTSON AQUATIC CENTER LOCKER ROOMS
RENOVATION PROJECT IN THE AMOUNT OF $100,000
SUMMARY
The Dolores Bengtson Aquatic Center's (DBAC) locker rooms were constructed in 1997
when the original 1969 administration building was renovated. The locker rooms have
been in continuous operation for 20 years and the wearable surface materials used in
the construction have now reached the end of their useful and maintainable life. The
existing looker rooms also do not meet current Health Code standards, and they require
some American with Disability Act improvements. A Request for Qualifications (RFQ)
was advertised seeking an architecture firm interested in preparing plans and
specifications, as well as providing construction support for the project. In response,
four firms submitted Statements of Qualifications (SOQ). Three firms were invited for
interviews. Based on the firm's SOQ and interview performance, staff recommends that
the City Council award the contract to Arch -Pac, Inc. of Vista, California, to provide the
needed services for the DBAC locker rooms renovation for a not -to- exceed amount of
$100,000.
RECOMMENDATION
1. Approve a design professional services agreement with Arch -Pac, Inc. to provide
architectural design services and construction support services for the DBAC Locker
Rooms Renovation project for a not -to- exceed amount of $100,000.
2. Authorize the City Manager to execute the attached agreement.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
$1.2 million was identified in the Facility Repair and Replacement fund for an expanded
version of this project that included all items identified in this current locker room
renovation project, plus pool deck repairs. Due to the currently anticipated cost of the
locker rooms renovation project, the pool deck repairs are deferred at this time. The
financial impact of approving this design agreement is $100,000. Construction funding
is expected to also come from the Facility Repair and Replacement fund, but will be
presented to City Council at a later date when the construction award is considerd.
