Jil lok
14 it4-
-Ike Custard Ha ea_a;, A
Date
April 18, 2017
City of Pleasanton
200 Old Bernal Avenue
Pleasanton, CA 94566
Dear Counsel Members:
My name is John Gaulin and I'm one of the owners of Rita's Italian Ice
located at 320 St. Mary Street downtown. I am writing on behalf of our
store and the surrounding businesses in the area. Guests at our store
typically take their orders to go or sit onsite to eat their desserts for
an average of 15 minutes. Since opening our doors a month ago, we continue
to receive complaints from guests regarding the difficulty in finding a
parking spot nearby in order to quickly park, run in and grab a treat, and
then head home or back to the office.
We would like to request that the City of Pleasanton provide a 20-minute
green parking space at the corner of St. Mary and Main Street near the
stop sign. We think this would be an asset and welcome addition to the
downtown area for the many people who make quick stops at the businesses
in the area. Customers have expressed that they are currently dissuaded
from visiting "quick stop" local businesses when they are unable to find
parking. They simply turn around and go home. In this same vein, we
believe the addition of bicycle racks in the area would make it easier for
Downtown Pleasanton customers traveling on bikes to secure their bicycles
and patron the surrounding shops and restaurants.
We have also received many requests from guests asking that an outdoor
trash can be placed in front of our store. While Rita's of Pleasanton is
happy to provide one of its own, we were told that only City trash
receptacles are permitted on City sidewalks. We requested a City-owned
trash can from the Planning Department, but our request was not granted.
The current City-owned trash cans halfway down from our store are
consistently overflowing with cups, napkins, and other paper goods from
Rita's because of the "grab, go and eat" nature of our treats.
We think the above requests would greatly improve the shopping and dining
experience for Downtown Pleasanton patrons. Thank you in advance for your
consideration of these requests.
Regards,
S `iii a,,.J 1
320 St. Mary Street Pleasanton, CA 94566 (925) 223-8685
