This email acknowledges
receipt of your email to the Mayor and City Council and the City Manager.
Thank you again for your interest in the City of Pleasanton.
Sincerely yours,
Ellen Holmgren, Administrative Assistant
City of Pleasanton
From:Carol Fellman
Sent:Tuesday, March 21, 2017 1:22 PM
To: Mayor and City Council <citvcouncil @citvofpleasantonca.gov>
Subject: New Civil Center
I understand that there will be a specific plan update task meeting on March 28th. I will be out of town on that
date, but I wanted to share my thoughts as a resident of downtown Pleasanton for 20 years. I live on Pleasanton
Avenue and frequent downtown establishments very often. I walk the Bernal Park several times a week. I also
volunteer at the library.
Our library is quite busy. I've noticed a big increase in the number of patrons using the facility in recent years.
While a big new library would be nice, a satellite library for patrons who have to drive a distance would be just
as welcome. The expense of opening a new library is exorbitant, and I'd prefer to upgrade our current structure.
I am also quite concerned about how the city would use the existing property currently occupied by the library
and city offices. I understand that the plan is to sell the property and rezone it for mixed use residential. I am
very opposed to the idea of high-density housing downtown, not only because of all the traffic it would bring to
the city, but also aesthetically. I love the small town look and feel of our downtown. I can't imagine how it
would look with those huge buildings at one end.
Bottom line, I'm opposed to the proposed Civic Center Building at the Bernal Park. We really don't need to
make the changes suggested, and the price tag is an unneeded expense for Pleasanton taxpayers.
Carol Fellman
1
