Notwithstanding the program changes noted above, the Pleasanton Community Farm will
continue to be located in Sub-Areas 7 and 16 of the Bernal Property and the intention is that it
[Sub-area 7] be master planned to meet a growing interest in community gardening, home
gardening, gardening related educational programs, recreational services based on horticulture
and gardening, opportunities for non-profit community gardening and training, and the
historical significance of the Bernal Property. In that sense, there would be a similarity with Sub-
Area 16 in the current draft master plan.
Given that the potential urban farmers for the Pleasanton Community Farm are not yet known,
the primary objective of the Final Master Plan is to identify this group and glean from them the
Farm Program. Our Design Team would work with the City to confirm building status during the
first step in our process —the Farm Program Task.
Final Master Plan Scope
Amending and completing the existing Draft Pleasanton Community Farm Master Plan is to be
conducted with the goal of guiding the future use and development of Sub-Areas 7 and 16 of
the Phase II Bernal Property Specific Plan. City Staff will coordinate the master plan amendment
process with direction from the City Parks and Recreation Commission.
Due to the removal of livestock related activities and facilities in Sub-area 7, the arrangement of
the updated program on both Sub-areas 7 and 16 can take a new form and a different direction.
The Final Master Plan scope will reexamine the architectural program for the Farm based on the
needs of prospective Farm operators and City Council endorsements.
The primary objective of the Final Master Plan is to identify a list of potential farm operators that
can guide the City regarding what is needed to run a successful Farm. Programming needs for
the community building/learning center as well as restrooms and storage buildings will be
identified.
The Project will include the following scope of services:
1. Finalize project goals and objectives;
2. Assist with identifying opportunities for non-profit and community partners for
providing ongoing Farm operations;
3. Finalize a general site survey that identifies and confirms natural and manmade
features, including topography, wetlands, streams, vegetation, utilities, structures, and
other features as necessary for the purposes of master planning;
4. Coordinate the various local, state, and federal permitting authorities as necessary for
understanding regulatory and/or environmental issues and constraints that need to be
resolved as the Farm begins operations;
Pleasanton Community Farm—Revised Proposal—MD Fotheringham, Landscape Architects, Inc. page 4
