<br /> County,$2,600.00—Funds will be used to purchase signs with sorting/recycling instructions, plastic bins, material costs for
<br /> classroom lessons and compostable trash bags for the classroom.
<br /> Mini-Grant#: 16-64 Wee Poets, Preserving Our Planet, Berkeley,West County,$3,000.00—Funds will be used to produce 4, 30-
<br /> minute videotapes titled Preserving Our Planet.
<br /> Mini-Grant#: 16-65 Fertile Groundworks,Tumbling Composters and Classes for Sustainable School Gardens, Livermore,
<br /> East County,$2,819.94—Funds will be used to utilize the lessons with the pilot program and to expand it to three of the other
<br /> elementary school programs.
<br /> Mini-Grant#: 16-70 Cypress Mandela Training Center, Inc.,Cypress Mandela Waste Management Training Project,
<br /> Oakland,West County,$3,000—Funds will be used to provide a training during a 16-week course that focuses on health design,
<br /> toxics and waste prevention,environmental purchasing, repair and reuse, salvaging, deconstruction, re-use(such as: lumber, nails,
<br /> cement, electrical boxes,etc.) and recycling building materials that was used in previous training cycles.
<br /> The total 2016 Expenditure Plan budget of$130,000 for Mini-Grants was approved by the Board along with the option to
<br /> carry over all unexpended funds from previous grant years and expend if necessary. A total of$114,867.36 in Mini-Grants
<br /> was approved.
<br /> Project Grants
<br /> The Education Advisory Board awarded 14 Project Grants to the following projects:
<br /> Project Grant#: 16-51 Northern California Recycling Association (NCRA),Sustainable Recycling Campaign Support in
<br /> Oakland,Berkeley,West County,$14,673.50-Funds from this grant will be used to assist multifamily residents in Oakland to
<br /> recycle and compost.This includes: outreach and technical assistance to property managers,conducting door-to-door outreach with
<br /> paid volunteers from ILWU Local 6 as well as other community based youth organizations, holding community events where
<br /> appropriate,working collaboratively with Waste Management to identify targets and hand out pails,and finally surveying property
<br /> managers and tenants about their likelihood of participating in the organics recycling program.
<br /> Project Grant#: 16-52 The East Bay Depot for Creative Reuse,Creative Reuse Connections-Year 2,Oakland,West County,
<br /> $13,000.00-Funds from this grant will be used to contact 50 retailers and manufacturers in Alameda County to inquire about potential
<br /> donations of materials for the next year, connect with local businesses and manufacturers face-to-face, secure on-going material
<br /> donations from at least 10 local retailers and manufacturers-encourage these donors to become financial supporters as well, and
<br /> provide on-site pick-up services through local pick-up to non-commercial(household)donators.
<br /> Project Grant#: 16-53 Earth Team,Sustainable Youth Waste Action Internships, Berkeley,West County,$20,697.00- Funds
<br /> from this grant will be used to educate,engage and connect with a student population of over 3,500 students on 2 campuses in
<br /> Alameda County: Mount Eden High School and Oakland Tech. 12 student per campus will be selected to partake in paid internship
<br /> opportunities.
<br /> Project Grant#: 16-54 CIWA, Inc., New Haven Unified School District-Compost,San Jose,West County,$7,000.00-Funds
<br /> from this grant will be used to improve sorting and collection processes at all sites to divert the majority of materials generated to
<br /> either compost or recyclables and bring the sustainable practices into classroom curriculum.
<br /> Project Grant#: 16-55 Zero Waste USA,Z-Team Zero Waste GrassRoots Training, Sebastopol,West County,$17,980.00-
<br /> Funds from this grant will be used to collect relevant case studies, social media campaigns and grassroots groups contact information.
<br /> Develop a Zero Waste USA agreement in which groups commit to integrate Zero Waste into their methods of operating.
<br /> Project Grant#: 16-56 Ecology Center, Plastic-Free July and Beyond, Berkeley,West County,$15,000.00-Funds from this
<br /> grant will be used to raise public awareness about plastic pollution and current plastics recycling systems, share tools,alternatives,
<br /> resources and skills to help people use less plastic in their daily lives, teach people how and where to dispose of their plastic discards
<br /> to ensure recycling and cultivate youth leaders(or ambassadors) who can spread knowledge in their families and communities
<br /> regarding recycling and the problems of plastic waste.
<br /> Project Grant#: 16-58 Fertile Groundworks, Natural resource Conservation Education Center, Livermore, East County,
<br /> $5,415.12-Funds from this grant will be used to leverage and expand upon our existing composting demonstration facility that has
<br /> been developed and built over the past 5 years.The goal is to make it a more effective and useable facility and to create a"big Picture
