Water. California will take a very long time to make up for the recent (and still much existent) drought. New
development takes water Pleasanton should not be parceling out and passes the cost off to long-time
residents. The City Council owes its constituents a serious explanation.
Traffic. It is near impossible to get through town most of the given day. Every time a new development is
introduced, misleading information on traffic abatement is shoved to the forefront of the proposal, hiding from
the public that the "abatement" is only an attempt to alleviate the new traffic with that development, and
certainly not relief from the disaster of cars already on the road.
Housing. The best part of living in Pleasanton was the fact that it did not feel like any other big town or
city. The struggle to find a home was based on the fact that they were "in demand" and not plenty by the
dozen. This City Council would love to see citizens mashed in together, making us the new San Jose or
Concord. And once the developers build up every last square foot, they will scoot town and leave us to try and
wiggle around in a concrete jungle.
I think the number one issue long-term citizens have with all of what is going on is the lack of transparency on
the City Council's part. The City Council is responsible to the citizens of Pleasanton, not to Costco, not to any
developer. Pleasanton only gets one chance to save land (not grassy man-made parks---that is NOT
"undeveloped") and stay manageable. At the rate we are going now, we will have absolutely no room to breathe
and nowhere to look except at houses and apartments and parking garages. Citizen are not being told about the
key players in the development schemes nor are we having adequate weigh in on where the future of Pleasanton
is headed.
I appreciate the opportunity to share the thoughts of so many of us. I look forward to 2017 being the year the
City Council and planners make decisions based off of the residents' wishes and in the best interests of
Pleasanton, not just their purse strings.
Regards,
Karen Reid
2
