The balance of the Irby Ranch project is just good planning. Our failure to adequately plan in the past has led to projects
currently coming out of the ground that are less than they could have been had we not passed an illegal and callous
housing cap. I realize that this all took place prior to your service on the council, but you have the opportunity now to
avoid the mistakes of the past.
In a community of character, how can we be so dismissive of the need for housing for the members of our community
who work here and can't afford to live here? How can we feel good about having parents commute 2, 3 or 4 hours a day
to work in our community? What does that do to their families and their communities? These attitudes are reminiscent
of the treatment of Chinese workers a century ago. Through the lens of time we all know that banning people from our
community based on ethnicity is shameful. By failing to provide adequate housing we are doing the same thing based
on economic status. While not as direct as ethnic discrimination, it is just as shameful. As our elected leaders, we pray
that you will do what is best for our community and that you will be true to our desire to be a community of character.
Please approve this project on February 7th. It is the right thing to do.
Thank you,
John
,Doha D. Sensiba
Managing Partner
Sensiba San Filippo LIP
2
