BACKGROUND
Following direction received from the City Council at its July 19, 2016 meeting, staff
initiated recruitment for the Downtown Specific Plan Task Force. Recruitment consisted
of a press release and advertisement on the City's website. The City has received a
total of 16 applications for the three at-large positions on the task force.
TASK FORCE DESIGNEES AND ALTERNATES
The City Council designated its representatives (Mayor Thorne and Vice Mayor Narum,
Councilmember Pentin as an alternate) to the Task Force at its July 19, 2016 meeting.
Councilmembers Brown, Pentin, and Olson have each selected the following at-large
representatives: Teri Pohl, Jim Merryman, and Jan Batcheller, respectively.
At its August 18, 2016 meeting, the Economic Vitality Committee designated Olivia
Sanwong as a representative and Steve Baker as an alternate. At its September 14,
2016 meeting, the Planning Commission designated Commissioners Ritter and Allen to
participate in the Task Force (and Commissioner Brown as an alternate). The
Pleasanton Downtown Association appointed Laura Olson and Dirk Christiansen to
serve as its representatives (and Janet Yarbrough as an alternate). Appointments to
the Task Force are summarized in the table below.
REPRESENTATIVE(S) ALTERNATE
City Council (2) Jerry Thorne Jerry Pentin
Kathy Narum
Planning Commission (2) Herb Ritter Justin Brown
Nancy Allen
Pleasanton Downtown Laura Olson Janet Yarbrough
Association (2) Dirk Christiansen
Economic Vitality Committee (1) Olivia Sanwong Steve Baker
Teri Pohl
At-Large Representatives (3) Jim Merryman NA
Jan Batcheller
An alternate member of the Task Force would adhere to the same roles and
responsibilities as a Task Force member and would be invited to participate in a task-
force meeting if the applicable representative were unavailable to attend. In the Task
Force member's absence, the alternate would be able to provide input and
recommendations in the same manner as other task force members.
Preparation of the update to the Downtown Specific Plan is likely to take 18 months,
and is scheduled to commence within the next several months.
