However,to continue 7
keeping pace with today's educational demands, our aging
classrooms, science labs and school facilities require updates 44
and improvements to provide all local students a modern
and safe education. We need to make safety improvements at
our schools, including repairing leaky roofs and renovating
bathrooms. We also need to upgrade our science, technology,
and math(STEM) classrooms to better prepare
students for 21st-century careers.
School and Classroom Safety, Renovation, Construction and Modernization Measure'
In order to provide students with a 21st-century education and ensure student safety, the Pleasanton Unified
School District Board of Trustees voted to place Measure I1,a local school facilities bond measure, on the
November 8,2016 ballot.If approved,Measure I1 would cost an estimated$49 per$100,000 of assessed,not
market, value per year and would generate$270 million to repair and update our schools. Every penny would
stay in our community to improve our local schools. Measure I1 would:
Expand classroom space to support programs in science, technology, engineering, arts and math
Make necessary repairs to leaky roofs, update bathrooms and address safety concerns
*Replace outdated portable classrooms with permanent classroom buildings
*Provide facilities and instructional technology needed to attract and retain the best teachers
Provide up-to-date science labs, science equipment and learning technology to prepare students for
college and modern careers
*Build new classrooms and a new elementary school to prevent student overcrowding
*Ensure classrooms continue to meet current safety codes
*Improve energy and operational efficiency and utilize the savings to support classroom instruction
Elements of the Measure
Measure Ii includes accountability safeguards:
*Measure I1 would ensure developers pay the maximum amount allowed by law to fund school
construction costs when they build homes in Pleasanton
All funds would stay local—the State couldn't take away a single penny
*Annual audits and independent citizen oversight would ensure all funds would be spent as promised
*No funds could be spent on teachers'or administrators'salaries
Strong schools make a strong community
For More Information.
Measure Ii will appear on the November 8,2016 ballot. Please contact Superintendent Rick Rubino at
rrubino @pleasantonusd.net or(925)462-5500 with any questions or comments.
