Approved special event street closure for the inaugural "Good for the Soul" run in memory of Kate <br /> Steinle on October 30, 2016 from 4:00 AM to 11:30 AM <br /> MOTION: It was m/s by Narum/Pentin to approve the Consent Calendar as recommended. Motion <br /> passed by the following vote: <br /> Ayes: Councilmembers Narum, Olson, Pentin, Mayor Thorne <br /> Noes: None <br /> Absent: Councilmember Brown <br /> MEETING OPEN TO THE PUBLIC <br /> 8. Public Comment <br /> Wendy Stevens wondered why the City's solid waste hauling is so costly and noted other surrounding <br /> cities offer free large-item pickup several times per year but Pleasanton does not. Mayor Thorne stated <br /> staff will follow-up on the matter and get back to Ms. Stevens. <br /> Cele Gutierrez spoke about the City's notification process and referenced problems with the tennis park <br /> issue. She mentioned other incidences where her neighbors were notified of projects that have affected <br /> her, but she was not. She encouraged the City to be timely and thorough in its notification process. <br /> Mayor Thorne advised that Council has directed staff to review the notification process and make <br /> appropriate corrections. <br /> Rick Von Pein spoke regarding the tennis court issue, addressed use of tennis courts in the City and <br /> expressed concerns that postponing the project will result in cancelling it. <br /> Mike Moran spoke about the importance of bike safety, particularly, in relation to the intersection of <br /> Stanley Boulevard and Valley/Bernal Avenue. He expressed concerns with the speed limit in the area <br /> as well as a missing sidewalk that needs to be fixed. He encouraged Council to consider reducing the <br /> speed limit and install signage to make drivers aware of pedestrians and cyclists. <br /> PUBLIC HEARINGS AND OTHER MATTERS <br /> 9. Presentation by Alameda County regarding a General Obligation Bond for Affordable Housing on <br /> the November 2016 ballot <br /> • <br /> Michelle Starratt, Deputy Director of the Alameda County Community Development Department, <br /> delivered a PowerPoint presentation addressing the lack of housing to meet the needs of communities <br /> City Council Minutes Page 2 of 7 August 16,2016 <br />
