THE CITY OF 8
- =
°'°"r' 1- 11 CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
pLEASANTON.
September 6, 2016
Engineering
TITLE: APPROVE CHANGE ORDER ONE WITH GOODLAND LANDSCAPE, INC.
IN THE AMOUNT OF $76,832.88 TO INSTALL IRRIGATION MAINLINE
PIPING AND LATERALS IN THE PIONEER CEMETERY DRIVEWAY
ALIGNMENT
SUMMARY
On June 7, 2016, the City Council awarded the construction contract to Goodland
Landscape, Inc. in the amount of $390,000 for the Veterans Memorial Project in the
Pioneer Cemetery, CIP No. 158008. The funding for the project was available in the
existing Capital Improvement Program budget. At the June 7, 2016 meeting, City
Council also allocated $500,000 to the Pioneer Cemetery Master Plan Implementation
Reserve Fund. Work is currently proceeding on the Veterans Memorial project. At the
same time there is a desire to move forward on other components of the Cemetery
Master Plan. Two of those components are reconstructing the paved roadway that
leads from the entrance of the cemetery on Sunol Boulevard up the hill to the memorial,
and, while the existing pavement is removed, install an irrigation main line along the
same alignment. Since the current Goodland Landscape contract includes
reconstructing the pavement in the immediate vicinity of the memorial, and since
Goodland Landscape is well-versed in irrigation system installation, staff approached
Goodland and negotiated a change order price for the work. The total cost for the
irrigation mainline and roadway reconstruction work is $71,832.88. Staff believes this to
be a fair price and recommends the City Council approve change order number one to
complete the work. This change order is before City Council for approval as it is beyond
the $40,000 that the City Council authorized the Director of Engineering to approve
when the project was awarded to Goodland Landscape on June 7, 2017.
RECOMMENDATION
1. Approve change order number one with Goodland Landscaping in the amount of
$71,832.88 to install an irrigation mainline and reconstruct a portion of the roadway
in the Pioneer cemetery, and authorize the Director of Engineering to sign said
change order.
2. Allocate $71,832.88 from the Pioneer Cemetery Master Plan Implementation
Reserve to cover the cost of the change order.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
Funds for this change order are available in the Pioneer Cemetery Master Plan
Implementation Reserve Fund, CIP No. 16446.
