SUtPLEfw NTAL MATERIAL
HACIENDA NDA Provided to the City Council
After Distribution of Packet
Date
August 11, 2016
Mayor Thorne and Members of the Pleasanton City Council
City of Pleasanton
150 Main Street
Pleasanton, California 94566
Re: Alameda County Housing Bond
Dear Mayor Thorne and Councilmembers:
Hacienda is located near the geographic center of the San Francisco Bay Area and,at 875 awes,is the largest development
of its kind in Northern California. Over 10 million square feet of existing, mixed-use space is occupied by some 650
companies that locally employ nearly 19,000 people. Key tenants include Kaiser Permanente,Oracle , Roche Molecular
Systems and Gap who have all made substantive investments in their presence within Hacienda. In addition, Hacienda
features homes to some 4,500 residents and is in the active planning and construction phase for as many more. Our facilities
thrive because of the state-of-the-art working and living environments that have been developed which include critical
components such as an ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive approaches to supplying housing with a full
spectrum of affordability.
Hacienda supports the proposed $580 million Alameda County housing bond and urges the Pleasanton City Council to
likewise take action in support of its passage in November. In every corner of Alameda County, families, seniors and people
with disabilities are increasingly priced out of neighborhoods where they have contributed to the diverse, vibrant community
we all enjoy. Rents are rising much faster than incomes, and many more households are now paying more than half of their
income for housing. These rising costs force people to move away from family and support systems, commute long distances
to work,or live in substandard conditions. Housing insecurity, including the increased risk of homelessness, impacts our
health and diminishes our collective quality of life. Our local economy also suffers when there is so little money left to spend
after limited resources are used to cover housing and transportation costs.
Alameda County has sustained cuts of 89%in state and federal funding for housing affordable to lower income households
since the recession. Dedicated local funding is key to competing successfully for state and federal matching funds.A $580
million Alameda County housing bond that contains money that Pleasanton will be able to directly access is a hold solution
to both help preserve and produce affordable rental homes, stabilize families and neighborhoods, and increase home
ownership opportunities.
Please give serious consideration to supporting the $580 million Alameda County housing bond. We urge such adoption
of support as a way of furthering an important component of the provision of a diversity of housing choices and in support
of a vibrant Pleasanton and Alameda County economy.
Sincerely,
aPaxson
eral Manager, Hacienda
OMAI
.1,, COMA W
•
0
4305 Hacienda Drive,Static 330,Pleasanton,California 94588-2738 Phone 925.734.6500 Fax 925.734,6501 e-mail infotehacienda.org vvvv vv uvvo.haeienda.org
