City of Pleasanton DRAFT
Recycled Water Infrastructure Expansion Phase 1A Design of Additional Improvements
A booster pump station is needed to increase system pressure at the Sports Park and to convey recycled
water south along the Valley Avenue corridor. The booster pump station would be supplied by a
connection to the recycled water system at the Sports Park where the Arroyo Mocho crossing enters the
turf fields and discharge into the system just downstream of the supply connection, boosting pressure in
the system south of the Arroyo Mocho. The booster station would be sized to accommodate the
following operating scenarios:
• A: Phase 1A customers south of Arroyo Mocho only, consisting of all of the Sports Park and
Tennis Center meter connections. Minimum service pressure for Sports Park is 75 psi at the
meter.
• B: Scenario A plus the proposed Valley Avenue extension to the Bernal Community Park on
Laguna Creek Lane, including additional irrigation customers in KoII Center,Township
development,Safeway commercial development and Bernal Community Park. Minimum service
pressure is 60 psi to these customers at the meter.
• C: Scenario B plus the future extension to Callippe Reserve Golf Course pond, including
additional irrigation customer Callippe Reserve Golf Course. Minimum service pressure to
Callippe irrigation supply pond discharge is 5 psi, however this demand is off-peak and does not
impact booster pump station sizing.
Task Description:
RMC shall perform the following:
1. Hydraulic model analysis for each scenario using demand information provided by the City.
Results of the analysis will confirm extension pipeline diameters(up to two potential
alternatives will be considered based on City's preference to bid alternate sizes), booster
pump station discharge pressure requirements, identify the pump design flow and head
conditions. The RMC team will also use the hydraulic modeling as a basis for conducting a
pressure surge analysis to determine extent of transients within the overall system caused
by a sudden power outage at the booster station and recommend mitigation to control the
transients to within the service capabilities of the PVC pipe systemz,
2. Review site constraints and meet with City Parks staff to address siting and operational
requirements and features for the new pump station.
3. RMC will coordinate with packaged pumping system manufacturers to obtain competitive
pricing quotations for comparable systems:
a. RMC will research systems available from manufacturers(e.g. Grundfos)to meet the
required discharge head and flow from hydraulic analysis, and obtain initial
equipment selections for packaged pump stations from three manufacturers. To
facilitate this, RMC will prepare a project narrative including critical design and
operational criteria. No detailed specifications are anticipated.
b. RMC will confirm manufacturer's ability to incorporate surge control measures into
the packaged system (as determined in Task 1).
c. RMC will review the initial selections to confirm that they meet stated requirements
and will normalize equipment package scopes and construction details to the extent
possible through negotiation with the manufacturers. The intent of this negotiation
Scope of Work 2
