BACKGROUND <br /> Along with adopting the required resolution calling the November 8, 2016 election, staff <br /> recommends the Council request consent from the Alameda County Board of <br /> Supervisors for the Registrar of Voters to render specific services to the City related to <br /> the conduct of the election and to consolidate with the Statewide General Election. <br /> The nomination period for candidates opens Monday, July 18, 2016 and closes Friday, <br /> August 12, 2016. Should the incumbent Mayor or a Councilmember not seek reelection, <br /> the nomination period will extend to August 17, for any qualified candidate except the <br /> incumbent.
