serve the adjacent sports fields, and where to locate it. Some believe that the meadow
and open space connection to the park should not be interrupted by driveways and
parking while most others believe that the parking and circulation presented by Option 3
is necessary to serve the sports fields, and is only minimally invasive. Other issues that
have generated discussion include safety concerns related to the students potentially
crossing over the railroad tracks to the site, and safety issues for pedestrians crossing
the extension of Pleasanton Avenue from the parking deck. Staff believes these two
safety issues are solvable problems.
Future Steps
1 . The next Task Force meetings is tentatively scheduled for May 2016. The Task
Force will discuss additional alternative site planning refinements if necessary,
and the content of the Master Plan document, and additional public outreach
efforts.
2. Outreach meetings are scheduled with both the Chamber of Commerce
Economic Development & Government Relations Committee (EDGR) and the
Pleasanton Downtown Association (PDA) Economic Vitality Committee (EVC) for
Thursday, June 16, and public outreach workshops are scheduled for Tuesday
evening, May 31 , and Saturday morning, June 18, at the Library.
3. Subsequent Task Force Meetings are scheduled monthly through June 2016
where the Task Force will consider public feedback, finalize recommendations on
site location and site plan concepts, and make final recommendations on a Civic
Center/Library Master Plan document.
4. The ultimate deliverable product of the Task Force will include a Civic
Center/Library Master Plan that will present the final recommendation for a Civic
Center/Library Conceptual Site Plan and accompanying policies and guidelines
to inform subsequent detailed plans.
5. Following completion of the Draft Civic Center/Library Master Plan, staff will
share with the Council a schedule and work program for City commission reviews
(Library, Parks and Recreation, Economic Vitality Committee, Planning) and
alternative strategies for financing and voter approval of changes to the Bernal
Property Specific Plan if required.
Submitted by: Approve; by:
 J
Brian Dolan Nelson Fialho
Assistant City Manager City Manager
Attachments:
1 .
