JOINT MEETING A - L
PLEASANTON UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT
March 14, 2016
TITLE: AMADOR HIGH SCHOOL TRAFFIC SIGNAL INSTALLATION
RECOMMENDATION
Receive overview and status update.
SUMMARY
The City of Pleasanton (City) and Pleasanton Unified School District (PUSD) have been
working cooperatively to prepare a plan to improve traffic circulation and safety at
Amador High School. The proposed improvement plan includes a new sidewalk along
the north edge of the school property, modification of the north and middle driveways
with the installation of traffic signals at both driveways. Construction will take place in
the summer of 2016 and be completed prior to the start of the 2016/17 school year.
BACKGROUND
Traffic signals on Santa Rita Road at Amador Valley High School are identified as a high
priority location in the City's Traffic Signal Priority List. Santa Rita Road experiences
recurring traffic congestion at both the start and end of the school day. This congestion
occurs on Santa Rita Road, on the neighboring residential streets, and within the drop-
off/pick-up loop in the student parking lot. After review of the existing circulation patterns,
City staff, working in conjunction with PUSD staff, recommended the installation of traffic
signals at both the north and middle driveways of the parking lot fronting Santa Rita
Road to improve circulation and safety.
