These items will aide in the districtwide roll-out of the San Lorenzo Green Schools <br /> Challenge and promote centralized recycling. <br /> Mini-Grant#: 15-44 Cragmont Elementary School PTA/Green Team,Outdoor sorting stations for Cragmont Elementary, <br /> Berkeley,West County,$1,600.00—Funds will be used to purchase 3 sorting bins,signage and chains and locks to create an outdoor <br /> sorting station. <br /> Mini-Grant#: 15-45 Martin Luther King Middle School-PTA Green Team,Hallway recycling bins and biodegradable <br /> compost bags for King Middle School,Berkeley,West County,$1,450.00—Funds will be used to purchase 8 blue standing <br /> recycling bins with lids and compost bags that are biodegradable. <br /> Mini-Grant#: 15-46 Ranch Las Positas Elementary School,Hydration Station,Livermore,East County,$2,070.09—Funds will <br /> be used to purchase and install an outdoor hydration station at Rancho Las Positas Elementary School. <br /> Mini-Grant#: 15-47 Oxford Elementary School of Berkeley,Plastic Pollution Reduction Project,Berkeley,West County, <br /> $860.00—Funds will be used to purchase 48 stainless steel small plates,three 34 piece stainless steel flatware sets and three set of 6 <br /> anodized aluminum tumblers. These items will teach students the value of reuse and bring awareness to the concept of waste <br /> reduction. Students will also be responsible for washing,which will provide an opportunity to discuss the concepts of water <br /> consumption and conservation. <br /> Mini-Grant#: 15-48 Junction Avenue K-8 School,Hydration Station,Livermore,East County,$1,513.91—Funds will be used <br /> to purchase and install a hydration station in a multi-purpose room at Junction Avenue K-8 School. <br /> Mini-Grant#: 15-49 Open Heart Kitchen,Hot Meal Programs and the Children's Weekend Lunch Program,Livermore,East <br /> County,$3,000.00—Funds will be used to reduce waste from the food programs and educate people on ways to recycle in their daily <br /> lives. The grant will provide bio-degradable containers for the Children's Weekend Lunch program and for the Hot Meals program. <br /> Funds will be used for bio-degradable products in the food programs to help reduce waste. Educational ideas will be printed on <br /> recycled paper and sent out in box lunches on how to recycle at home. Recycling classes will also be given at six senior sites. <br /> Mini-Grant#: 15-50 City of Dublin,Mixed Recycling Decals:A Picture is worth 1,000 words,Dublin,East County,$3,000.00— <br /> Funds will be used to a)create bi-lingual,image heavy mixed recycling decals that can be used for both indoor and outdoor recycling <br /> containers b)modify the existing bi-lingual mixed recycling container recycling posters to include an indoor recycling container in <br /> addition to the outdoor bins and carts currently shown. The main objective is to provide these resources to businesses that need them. <br /> The total 2015 Expenditure Plan budget of$130,000 for Mini-Grants was approved by the Board along with the option to <br /> carry over all unexpended funds from previous grant years and expend if necessary. A total of$123,473.10 in Mini-Grants <br /> was approved. <br /> Project Grants <br /> The Education Advisory Board awarded 18 Project Grants to the following projects: <br /> Project Grant#: 15-51 Math Science Nucleus,Food Waste and Restoration:Masonic Home and East Bay Hills,Fremont, <br /> West County,$15,000.00-Funds from this grant will be used to select schools and evaluate different ways of integrating composting <br /> with science on site. MSN staff will help schools erect bins,and show how to use them for science and landscaping. The grant would <br /> provide funds to work at each site,include equipment needed for both teaching science and composting. MSN will monitor the school <br /> throughout the year and provide onsite,online,and phone consultation to insure that food waste and grass clippings are integrated into <br /> their recipe. <br /> Project Grant#: 15-52 Paul Patterson,Manure Diversion and Conservation to Soil Amendments,Dublin,East County, <br /> $8,800.00-Funds from this grant will be used to divert over one ton each of greens,browns,and herbivore wastes from reaching the <br /> landfill every month and produce just under one ton finished soil each and every month starting September 2015. Another goal of this <br /> project is to elevate the awareness of vermicomposting and the value of worms in our ecosystem. By teaching and having educational <br /> workshops children and adults will learn the how to's of vermicomposting and preservation of soil fertility without the use of <br /> petrochemical products. <br />
