THE CITY OF I 1
A::
CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
pLEASANTON.
January 19, 2016
Operations Services
TITLE: UPDATE ON THE STAGE 3 DROUGHT EMERGENCY
SUMMARY
A Stage 3 water shortage was declared by the City Council in May 2014, and the City
implemented a mandatory 25% reduction in water usage. In April 2015, the State of
California also adopted a mandatory 25% statewide reduction requirement. This report
summarizes the City of Pleasanton's 2015 water conservation efforts and provides an
update on the overall drought situation. In 2015, the City of Pleasanton significantly
exceeded the required State mandate by reducing water use by 37.7% or 2.23 billion
gallons compared to 2013.
RECOMMENDATION
Maintain current Stage 3 Water Conservation Plan. This includes a suspension of the
excess water use penalties, section 9.30.100 of the current City Drought Emergency
Declaration mandating a 25% water reduction. The excess use penalties would resume
and be applicable to any water used after March 1, 2016.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
No financial implications.
