We all want to preserve and protect what we have here in the City of Pleasanton, and that which truly
needs some protection.
After lengthy and detailed discussions and evaluations with some very qualified and serious committee participants,we
came to conclusions(carefully thought out and agreed to)and made recommendations to City Council regarding the
preservation of those identified assets and yet took into consideration the reasonable rights of property owners as well
as tenants. At the time,we all felt we could embrace those conclusions and recommendations.
Now it seems, certain persons are once again, trying to change the direction and validity of that effort.
Let me be very clear about where I stand on this matter. I have lived in the historical communities of Los Gatos,
Saratoga, and Santa Clara,as well as Pleasanton and have dealt first hand with the problems faced by property owners
who, ( in good conscience),try to improve their properties in these communities and yet live within the laws and spirit of
the effort to protect and preserve the truly historic assets within those communities.
I have come to feel that the policies, rules and requirements of these cities, which are endeavoring to preserve truly
historical assets, need to have a balance between the efforts to preserve those truly historic and identified assets, with
the reasonable property rights of the property owners within the confines of the designated historical areas of those
cities.
I sincerely believe that the conclusions and recommendations which were the result of the committee's year long
efforts, reasonably addressed that balance and should not be altered by this onerous change in philosophy. Please leave
it as is,without this proposed change.
Unfortunately, I cannot be at the hearing as I am on vacation until the 16th, but sincerely hope that my voice will be
heard.
Sincerely
Gerald Hodnefield
1
