THE CITY OF
w 0
CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT I
pLEASANTON.
September 1, 2015
Operations Services
TITLE: APPROVE THE PURCHASE OF A "CAMEL 1200" COMBINATION SEWER
CLEANER VACUUM TRUCK
SUMMARY
A vacuum truck is a tank truck designed to clean and maintain the sanitary sewer, and
to a lesser extent the storm sewer system, through the use of an integrated high
pressure water jetting system to clean pipes, manholes, and wet wells, and an
integrated heavy duty vacuum system which is designed to pneumatically transfer the
associated solids, liquids, and sludge through a heavy duty suction line into the onboard
storage chamber. Additionally, these vehicles are deployed to clean up SSOs (Sanitary
Sewer Overflows) and environmentally hazardous wastewater spills. The Utilities
department currently has two older (model years 1998 and 2004) vacuum trucks which
are at the end of their functional lives. The purchase of a new vacuum truck will
significantly increase reliability and regulatory compliance readiness, as well as
enhance the day to day efficiency in maintaining the sanitary and storm sewer systems.
RECOMMENDATION
Approve a Purchase Order in the amount of $375,402 be issued to enable the Utilities
Division to purchase a Camel vacuum truck. The purchase would be made through a
Cooperative Purchase Agreement in conjunction with the National Joint Powers
Alliance, which meets the City's competitive bidding requirement.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
The total cost of this equipment complete with chassis, licensing, and tax is $375,402
which is scheduled in the 2019-20 budget year in the Equipment Replacement Fund
(042-900). Due to condition of the current vehicles we recommend authorizing the
budget be authorized to the current budget year. The Fund balance is currently $2.5
million.
