BACKGROUND
The City of Pleasanton provides a multitude of services to the public, examples of which
include police and fire response, water and sewer, library services and recreational
opportunities.
In 1995, 2001, 2007, 2013 and now 2015, the City hired a consultant to survey the
community on the satisfaction with these services and facilities, to determine what
facilities and services were lacking in the community and what facilities and services
were of a high priority to the community in the future. This information is helpful to the
City Council and staff in formulating the annual operating budget, the capital
improvement program, and other long range planning efforts.
The City hired Fairbank, Maslin, Maullin, Metz & Associates (FM3) on April 22 ,
2015, to repeat and expand the prior community satisfaction surveys. The surveys
were conducted June 3-15, 2015. Completed surveys from 726 citizens were
utilized, producing survey results with +/- 3.7% accuracy.
DISCUSSION
The City Manager and executive team members worked with staff from FM3 to
develop the survey questions. These questions were drafted to determine public
opinion regarding city services and previous questions from the baseline surveys were
retained to determine how these results compare with those from the 1995, 2001, 2007
and 2013 community satisfaction surveys. Survey results are attached to this report
(see Attachment 1).
Survey results will be presented to the City Council on August 18, 2015. The
information can then be used by staff to modify goals or service delivery procedures, as
necessary.
The survey addresses a variety of topics including resident perceptions of the following
issues:
- Pleasanton Quality of Life.
- Top concerns Facing Pleasanton.
- Attitudes Toward City Government.
- Contact with City Departments and Facilities.
Key findings of the survey were as follows:
- Residents continue to express exceptionally high levels of satisfaction with the local
quality of life, city services, and sense of public safety.
- The drought and water issues are top concerns.
- Quick growth has emerged as a serious issue to nearly one quarter of Pleasanton
residents.
- In terms of specific services, the most important ones are related to public safety, and
water supply/quality.
