The Strategic Plan's findings and recommendations are based on the combination of
input derived from community workshops, targeted surveys and staffs technical
analysis and as such, in many respects, they represent community expectations and
observations which may exceed or be different from, those developed as part of
national or state recreational organizations.
The Alviso Adobe Community Park Strategic Plan includes the vision, mission and
guiding principles that will be used to steer future decision making for the Alviso Adobe
Community Park. It also contains a set of goals and strategies to guide decision making
regarding the park over the coming years.
One of the issues that was discussed with the Alviso Adobe Community Park Strategic
Plan Task Force was the request by East Bay Regional Parks District for assistance
with improving the access to and providing parking for the recently acquired Castleridge
property. City staff is currently working with EBRPD staff to address parking and
access for Castleridge, and related issues such as the provision of bathrooms, security
and privacy concerns for neighbors, and the timing of improvements to the Garms
Staging Area access to the Pleasanton Ridge. When these negotiations are complete,
staff intends to bring a Memorandum of Understanding between the City and the
District to the Council for its review.
Summary of Findings
During two (2) facilitated workshops in February and March of 2015, members of the
Alviso Adobe Community Park Strategic Planning Task Force provided guidance about
the vision, mission, guiding principles, strategic goals and corresponding strategies
included in this Strategic Plan. The goals and strategies are not listed in priority order as
they are equally important.
Vision Statement
"The Alviso Adobe Community Park will be celebrated as a valued historical and
environmental treasure, with popular interpretive and educational programs, dynamic
exhibits and special events that serve the entire community."
Mission Statement
"The Alviso Adobe Community Park provides a peaceful, rural setting where
visitors can explore local history, leam about the environment, and enjoy a variety of
both interpretive and interactive programs and events."
Guildinq Priniciples
1. Changes made to the facility and park should be aligned with the site's historical
legacy and the value of historical preservation.
2. Programming should highlight the park's historical and cultural assets.
