Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy & Golden Gate National Recreation <br /> Area <br /> Sharon Farrell (GGNPC) and Bill Merkle (GGNRA) <br /> Search for nesting songbirds and raptors in relation to vegetation work (tree <br /> removals and pruning, non-native/invasive plant removal) and native plant <br /> restoration projects in several locations within the Golden Gate National <br /> Recreation Area; recommend measures to reduce or avoid project-related <br /> impacts to birds and other wildlife. Designed and conducted research project to <br /> evaluate effectiveness of brush piles (installed to provide temporary bird refugia) <br /> during the invasive plant removal/native plant restoration project) at Lands End in <br /> San Francisco, CA. <br /> Communicated and interacted with public during Coastal Trail and other <br /> improvement projects at Lands End, Crissy Field, and Presidio Bluffs projects; <br /> addressed and documented comments and questions; worked with bird-watching <br /> community to address concerns about changes in habitat and to build positive <br /> relationships. <br /> Served as interim wildlife biologist for the National Park Service on Alcatraz <br /> Island. Monitored and managed population of breeding western gulls and helped <br /> USGS biologists monitor nesting black-crowned night herons and snowy egrets. <br /> Collected and summarized data, developed protocols, and wrote reports.
