5. "Twilight" — artist, Diana Diaz
a. Artist Description: Pleasanton's trees have been inspiring me for many
years. I grew up here and it never ceases to amaze me; their color, their
size. Mainly the view is of the Pleasanton Ridge, but very much inspired
by Kottinger Community Park. (Refer to attachment 6 for more details.)
b. Comments from the Civic Arts Commission: The commissioners liked the
design very much. They particularly favored the golden tree and would like
that to be in the front panel. If approved they would like the City to talk with
the property owner and see if all bushes around the box can be removed
so the entire design can be painted and seen.
c. The Civic Arts Commission is recommending placement of this design on
the utility box located at Kottinger Drive and First Street.
6. "The Most Pleasant Hills" —artist Robert Heubel
a. Artist Description: The design would be an abstract landscape painting
based on my previous work. The color scheme for the hills would be either
shades of orange/reds or green/blues at the discretion of the committee,
with a sky of blue with clouds. (Refer to attachment 7 for more details.)
b. Comments from the Civic Arts Commission: The members stated they
would like to see the drawing reflect the ridge as much as possible, they
prefer the gold/blue color concept and would like the clouds that are
represented in the red version.
c. The Civic Arts Commission is recommending placement of this design on
the utility box located at Sunol Boulevard and Mission Drive.
7. "Hummingbirds" — artist Irma Grant
a. Artist Description: the design depicts two hummingbirds eating nectar from
red Crocosmia flowers. Crocosmia is a hardy flower and very common in
the Pleasanton area and San Francisco Bay Area. (Refer to attachment 8
for more details.)
b. Comments from the Civic Arts Commission: the members loved the
depiction of the birds and the flowers. They felt the background was a little
two dark and tropical. They have asked the artist to present additional
lighter shades of green in the final design painted on the box.
c. The Civic Arts Commission is recommending placement of this box at First
Street and Stanley Boulevard.
The Civic Arts Commission has approved all of the aforementioned seven (7) designs
and is recommending all seven (7) designs to the City Council for their review and
consideration. Once the designs and locations are approved and agreements with the
artists are completed, the artists will have a four (4) week period to complete their work.
However, that schedule may be lengthened due to inclement weather or other
unforeseen delays.
