c. The Civic Arts Commission is recommending placement of this design on
the utility box located at Bernal Avenue and Case Avenue near
Pleasanton Middle School.
d. Please Note: Artist Thomasin Dewhurst will assist Robby in painting the
box.
2. "The Nature of Pleasanton" — artist, Mehdia Zaida
a. Artist Description: All five sides of this design have to do with a different
representation of nature, an important part of life in Pleasanton. (Refer to
attachment 3 for additional detail.)
b. Comments from the Civic Arts Commission include: "impressed with the
quality of work from this youth artist." "Like the hummingbird
representation." This artist was asked to make changes to two panels
from the PASS committee. The Civic Arts Commissioners all commented
that the changes were an improvement and recommend the design with
these new changes.
c. The Civic Arts Commission is recommending placement of this design on
the utility box located on Black Avenue and Santa Rita Road near Alisal
Elementary School.
3. "Happy Faces" —artist, Austin Willis
a. Artist Description: The design I have created uses bold, bright colors and
thick varying lines. I depicted several faces smiling and conversing
together. The smiling faces and bright colors help generate a positive
atmosphere and attempt to promote good feelings. (Refer to attachment 4
for additional detail.)
b. Comments from the Civic Arts Commission include: members liked the
nod to the graffiti style of artwork. They also were happy with the level of
art from a student artist. They like the color concept and the connection to
Amador High School. They asked that eyes on side 1 be softened to
reflect a "happier face." The artist indicated he would accommodate this
request.
c. "Wildflowers and Native Butterfly" — artist, Bianca Nandzik
a. Artist Description: I chose the California poppy as native plant of the San
Francisco Bay Area. They are a modern reminder of California's history. In
my design the beautiful wildflower attracts an Anise Swallowtail. (Refer to
attachment 5 for more detail.)
b. Comments from the Civic Arts Commission: the members loved the
design and stated this is exactly what they were looking for.
c.
