3. Public Comment from the audience regarding items not listed on the agenda <br /> None. <br /> MATTERS BEFORE THE COMMISSION <br /> 4. Recommendation to Allocate Community Grant Funds for Fiscal Year 2015/2016 <br /> Ms. Grose provided information about the Community Grant Funding process and the nine (9) <br /> applications received in the Civic Arts Category for the Community Grants Program. She <br /> noted that a total of$42,425.13 in funds was available for allocation, which included $2,425.13 <br /> carried over from the previous years, and $57,057.00 was the total amount being requested by <br /> the nine agencies. <br /> Mr. Patrick noted that the State report indicates that tax returns attached to the Livermore <br /> Valley Opera application were outdated. However, updated documentation has now been <br /> received by staff. <br /> Ms. Crose discussed the staff comments provided for each application within the Staff Report <br /> and noted that these comments could be used by Commissioners as discussion starting points <br /> for each of the applications. <br /> Commissioner Jellison opened the meeting for agency presentations from agency at <br /> 6:43 p.m. <br /> The Gatehouse Academy for Gift Education — enGAGE Summer Enrichment Camp 2015, <br /> Lynn and Bob Gatehouse — noted that the Gatehouse Academy program is dedicated to <br /> providing affordable project-based leaming opportunities for elementary and middle school <br /> students by helping them develop creativity, gifts, and talents to work with other students who <br /> share similar interests. 2015 will be the 4th year offering enGAGE! Summer Enrichment Camp <br /> at Harvest Middle School. They provided information about programs offered and <br /> learning/community service opportunities for high students to serve as teacher assistants and <br /> internships for college students. Additional information was provided about tuition costs, staff <br /> stipends, facility rent, insurance, and custodial service, as well as the number of unduplicated <br /> Pleasanton residents participating in the program. <br /> Mr. Gatehouse was advised by Commissioner Jellison that Gatehouse Academy was asked to <br /> present at this meeting because they were considered to be a new organization requesting <br /> funding. <br /> Livermore Valley Opera — Student Outreach Program and The Making of an Opera, Jim <br /> Schmidt — thanked the City of Pleasanton for past support and advised that approximately <br /> 8,000 students had been served during the past year by bringing professional singers and <br /> musicians to middle and high school classrooms and introducing students to opera. He <br /> advised that the Student Outreach Program allows students to learn about the history, <br /> performance, and production of opera and coaches them in vocal and musical performances. <br /> Civic Arts Commission Minutes <br /> March 2, 2015 <br /> Page 2 <br />
