the Open Heart Kitchen (OHK) box lunch program and felt the Commission should consider
adding more funding than what staff was recommending.
Linda McKeever from Open Heart Kitchen discussed the growth of OHK programs and the
number of people being served. She advised that while additional funding would be welcome,
OHK would prefer the Commission consider funding YMCA programs this year, but reconsider
the projected growth in needs for OHK's services when funding allocations are being
considered next year.
Commissioner Rowland indicated she would consider lowering the staff funding
recommendation for Hope Hospice if it would help retain the Meals on Wheel program. Mr.
Erickson noted that the staff recommendation of $5,000 has traditionally been held as the
minimum grant amount because anything less is generally burdensome both for agencies and
staff in terms of administration and relative benefit.
Commissioner Hayes discussed the lesser amount of funding being requested by Legal
Assistance for Seniors as compared to last year. She was advised that LAS appreciates her
concern but was satisfied with the staff recommendation for the coming year. However, they
expect that the numbers served will be higher than anticipated in the grant application.
After reviewing all of the funding requests and staff funding recommendations, Commissioners
agreed to make several minor changes and the following motion was made.
A motion was made by Commissioner Roby, seconded by Commissioner Rowland,
recommending approval of the following Housing and Human Services Grant (HHSG) funding
allocations for Fiscal Year 2015/16:
$ 13,000 Axis Comm.
